1400 Ways to Recognition
Washtenaw County has a team of 1,400 as diverse as the county population itself. These team members are located in offices in all areas of the county, often serving in positions on the front lines of their communities like court clerks and recreation program staff. Other times, they are working behind the scenes like counselors and IT staff. No matter the role, love and dedication go into their work and it is not to be taken for granted. Washtenaw County wanted to make sure each member of the team knew their contribution was vital and appreciated, and thus developed The 1400 initiative.

Washtenaw County wanted to kick off the initiative with a video that prioritized employee recognition and tie the impact to the Washtenaw County brand. However, we all agreed the video would be a useful tool for human resources in hiring, as well as educating the community on the breadth of services. Getting mileage out of the video needed to be done without compromising its main purpose.
We coordinated county-wide to interview employees genuinely passionate about what they do and let their own words and visible pride speak for themselves. The montage focused on those on the front lines and behind the scenes and was tied to together with broader organizational shots and commentary from leadership. This work was done together with an excellent video team from Russell Video.
The employees that volunteered to be part of this project were given a platform to speak from the heart and have a moment to shine as the face of Washtenaw County. Through this experience, they have learned the value of their contributions and started conversations on how departments can feature projects and team members on a more consistent basis.
From the initial response to the RFQ to the finalized product, the Hoyden team was easy to work with, offering suggestions that would optimize our budget and help us to achieve our long-term goals. I found their team to be prompt, polite and willing to adapt to the culture of our organization. This was an enjoyable experience for everyone involved, and I am incredibly grateful to Hoyden for helping all of us to feel comfortable with the process, and then providing an outcome that far exceeded our expectations.
